Sao Paulo

Work hard, play hard

After leaving the relaxt husstle of rio we went to the wealthy business metropole of sao paolo, we changed from swimshorts to jeans and from t shirts to vests(or a jacket if you are Paul) yeah, sao paulo(Sampa) is cold, really cold. It has been winter in Brazil ever since we arrived here bus have been swimming and sunbathing all the time, untill now. When we arrived at the AirPort, still a bit sad because Paul left his iPad on the AirPort in rio. But still, we had arrived in The City of Brazil.
At the AirPort are ways parted, Paul went to visit a friend who happend to live and work in Sampa. And i (Jaap) went to see one of the Unesco world heritage sites the unbelievably beautiful falls of iguacu. These falls, Caracas do iguacu are a beautiful set of waterfalls all over 15 m high near the Argentinian border. After a 14 hour ride in a nightbus and after a one and a half hour walk in search of a hostel i arrived in a small but fine place with WiFi but without any english speaking people, lovely. There was no time to relax because the weather was good and rain was expecter the next day so with my new best irish friend we left for the falls. Not only the falls itselfvare beautiful but also the national park they are in. After walking and staring at the falls and nature we decided to be real toerist and take a boat trop which would take us, as we were told) closer to the falls... They lied, they took us in there. Completely soakes but satisfied we were the last ones to leave the park.
On the way back to the hostel we stoppen at a real biergarten where we ended up eating a six people sized dinner because of a language problem. Next they we went to the itapu hydroelectric dam, which is the most producing dam in the world supplying both Paraguay and Brazil of electrcity. After this amazing trip toke the nightbus back to Sampa to meet Paul in a hostel, we met Some crazy australians with whom we had a great night. Then we left to meet our first lc, and were welcomed by Jeff and fabio who ended up hosting us way longer than intended but it was a fantastic experience. Next day we met more and more members and ended the day with giving our trainings. And a party at the neighbour of fabio and Jeff, crazy but fun. We met more aiesecers and had a lot of fun.

Then the serious business started, the Rabobank visit. To be fully prepared we decided to book a hotel and a taxi(biggest mistake ever with sampas traffic) and had a good night of sleep before our trip to Mina's gerais state. In the morning we met Andreas from Rabobank at a car rental who would join us the entire trip. After a four and a half drive we met marcelo and tiago who worked in the area we were going to visit.
First stop was fazenda santa Luzia, run by the brothers coelho. We met manager mauricio who welcomed us at the farm in their over-a-hundred-years-old villa for a huge lunch. After lunch he showed is around at his farm, first by foot but later because of the size of his farm by pick-up. The farm existed out of 900 hectares of ground with over 4000 cows, 10.000 pigs and Corn and grass. We were explaines their way of working, and maby more interesting for us, their way of looking at the agricutural Industry. After this farm we visited the Father of the family who had is own 'little' farm with a fee hundred indigenous Indian cows, solely uses For breading. After a tour on the grounds we were invited for a drink which ended up in having dinner and a lot of drinks, gotta love brazilian hospitality.
After the farms we went to a hotel with the Guys from Rabo( which means ass by the way). We had slme drinks with the Guys and were explained that the family we visited have a huge business with over 30.000 hectares(entire Netherlands 41.000) so that it was not an average brazilian farm, good to know.
The day after a visit to the Danone factory was planned. The expecter touristic tour around the factory ended up in a brainstorming sessies in a office room to look into opportunities for Danone en Rabo to cooperate. This was a real eyeopener for us to experience the perspectives of both the processing industry and the financing company. After Being invited to lunch we had to get back to Sampa with a lot of new information to think about. The next day a meeting at the Rabobank office was planned and we met the beautiful and clever rachuel who was the assistent of fabiana who we would meet for a lunchmeeting. Rachuel could tell us a lot About the way Rabobank was organised eventhough she worked there for only a few months. In the meeting with fabiana we could finally make clear what the ambassadors progromme was all about, which was not very clear as we experienced. Fabiana has been working in the brazilian dairy industry for a long time so she could help is a lot with all our questions and ideas.
After the meeting we had a tour in the Rabo office with rachuel and met Some dutch people working there.
The dag after we left Sampa again to go to the gate of the amazone: manaus.
